New Lexington Fends Off West Muskingum on Senior Night
NEW LEXINGTON, OH – It was a senior night success in a massive MVL matchup for New Lexington, as we enter the final full week of high school baseball. The top team in the small school division, New Lexington is now on a five-game winning streak with the 10-0 win over second place West Muskingum. As you might imagine, the seniors took center stage for the Panthers.
The game started slowly for both teams, as senior pitcher Garrett Blosser for the home Panthers and Alston Williamson for the road Tornadoes kept it scoreless, as the two had a pitching duel for the first couple of innings. New Lexington opened the flood gates in the third inning and never looked back.
The scoring started with a two-out, two-run double from Clay Miller to score Garrett Blosser and fellow senior Jerek Braglin. Another senor, Mason Pyle, was up next and he brought home Miller on a hard hit single to extend the Panthers advantage. Fourth-year first baseman Lane Baker followed suit with an RBI of his own, and New Lexington was off and running following the four-run third inning.
Blosser and the Panthers only needed five innings in this game, as the star pitcher pitched the entire way, allowing just one hit, striking out eight, and walking no batters, not to mention a two for three game at the plate with two runs and a run batted in. Braglin, Pyle, and Baker also contributed with the bats in a tremendous senior game for the Panthers.
New Lexington now improves to 14-2 on the season, 12-1 in the MVL with a key two-game advantage atop the small school division over West Muskingum.
