New name in the race for Zanesville mayor

The race for mayor of Zanesville is shaping up.

City councilman at large, Rob Sharrer, has decided to make a second run at the city’s top office. He ran unsuccessfully in the last mayoral election, but since then he has become a city councilman. He believes that experience will help him in his run for mayor.

“I think working on council has allowed me to keep my finger on the pulse of the city, see what’s going on with the administration and with council, what’s going on in the community,” Sharrer said. “I think it’s been a positive experience.”

Sharrer has owned Varsity Title for the past ten years and he believes his business mind will help him lead the city. But that’s not the only thing he’s going to stress throughout his campaign. He addressed the drug problem in the city, and he talked about what he considers a viable solution to it.

“It’s gotta be a partnership with all of the players involved,” Sharrer said. “I think the Zanesville Police Department, the Sheriff’s Department [and] the Drug Task Force all do a wonderful job. I think working with area neighborhoods to bring back the sense of neighborhood in the community is important.”

Sharrer said he and Mayor Tilton have similar views on some issues, but Sharrer feels his business background and his vision for Zanesville make him the best candidate for the job.
