New President at Zane State College
During a board of trustees meeting on November 24, Chairman John W. Knight announced the board had unanimously chosen Dr. Chad Brown, Provost and Executive Vice President of Zane State College, as the next President of the College, effective July 1, 2015.
He will succeed Dr. Paul Brown, who is retiring in June after serving as president for over 11 years. John W. Knight, chairman of the board, said, “We are extremely pleased to appoint Dr. Chad Brown as the next president of Zane State College. The board agreed Chad was a perfect choice considering his dedication to data informed decision making and success with creating and implementing programs.”
Current President Paul Brown commented, “Upon hearing the news, I was pleased and very happy for Chad. He has been a tremendous asset to the College, and I am confident he will lead the College to continued success.” Dr. Chad Brown joined Zane State College in 2005 as academic dean of health, public service, and service related programs. In 2008, he was named vice president for academic services and workforce development, before becoming provost and executive vice president in 2012. Prior to Zane State College, Dr. Chad Brown worked at Capital University and the University of Michigan.
While at Zane State College, Dr. Chad Brown has championed several improvements including developing strategies to help at risk students. A new first-year student experience he initiated resulted in a ten percent increase in retention rates in the first year. Dr. Chad Brown has also been leading the College’s work in continuous quality improvement. He has centralized the collection of data, expanded information gathering, and developed improved models for linking data analysis to decision making and the College’s strategic plan. His work has garnered the attention of his peers, and justifiably, he serves on multiple state level teams focused on increasing student success and college completion. He is also frequently invited to speak at state and national conferences. “I am humbled and flattered by the action taken by the board. Zane State College is a truly great institution, one filled with great people simply doing great things. The College, the community, and the region as a whole have a bright future, and I am proud to play a small part in that,” Dr. Chad Brown said.
Dr. Brown has a bachelor’s of arts from Capital University, a master’s of science from the University of Michigan, and a doctorate from Ohio University. For additional information contact Nick Welch, director of marketing and communications, at nwelch@zanestate.edu or 740.588.1224.
