New Scamming ‘Risk Index’

Better Business Bureau

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The better Business Bureau has a New ‘Risk Index’ that identifies top scams.

Kip Morse, President of the Better Business Bureau located in Columbus, Ohio talked today about how the new ‘Risk Index’ has information regarding how much exposure there is to scams, what people are losing money on, and how susceptible people are to scams.

“Home improvement is still the number one,” Morse said. “So everyone thinks that everything’s done online and that’s where the scams are through the emails and sometimes through phone calls. They’re taking money up front those are going to be a higher ticket items and you lose that pretty quickly, because the person takes the money up front and you don’t see them again.”

Following home improvement is fake checking scams. However Morse said the most surprising factor in the ‘Risk Index’ is the fact that most think the elderly are the most susceptible when it’s actually 19 to 25 year-olds that are. Now with the information the Better Business Bureau can offer further assistance.

“You can call us up during the day free of charge,” Morse said. “We’re going to work with you, you’re going to tell us what you’re hearing about. Then the red flags are going to go up and we’re going to recognize what that is. We’re going to be able to talk you through that.”

If you’d like to know more information on the ‘Risk Index’ or if you think you’re dealing with a scam, Morse wants everyone to also checkout the Better Business Bureaus website at bbb.org.  All informative services are free.
