Newton Twp. Fire Department holds on site training

ZANESVILLE, Ohio -Â The Newton Township Fire Department is holding fire and EMT training on site until December.
Forty firefighters from surrounding counties are enrolled in the training program. Captain, Joshua Bryan, said it is beneficial that the firehouse is located in a former school.
“We put the info in their heads, and come right down to the trucks and we are able to put our hands on the tools, the application process, and put them in real life situations,” said Bryan.
Newton Fire has recently been approved by the Ohio Department of Public Safety to offer advanced EMT classes. This will give the firefighters extensive medical training to serve the community.
“These students are going to be able to start IV’s in the field, do cardiac meds, ACLS procedures. A lot more advanced techniques than just basic splinting and oxygen therapy,” said Bryan.
They will be the second fire department in the area to offer advanced EMT classes, and will begin towards the first of the year.
