High School Students Clean-Up Tobacco
ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Zanesville High School FFA program spends a day each year cleaning the litter discarded by nicotine users.
Zanesville High School FFA Members Nolan Hittle and Hailee Patterson discussed some of the reasons behind the clean-up as well as how their efforts helped to make an impact.
“This is our second year doing this clean-up,” Patterson said. “We just want to like, make the community look better. So we went around picking up tobacco products like cigarette butts, like if we found vape products on the ground. And even if we found trash, we picked those up, so.”
Approximately 50 students recently gathered 12 containerfuls of discarded tobacco items at various locations near the school.
“So pretty much how I see it is, when you throw out your cigarette buts or just throw trash on the ground, the animals can get into it and it harms the animals and it also makes the neighborhoods and roads look more trashy,” Hittle said.
Both students agreed to have benefited from the experiences they shared alongside their fellow students, while creating a positive outcome for everyone to appreciate.
