Nursing Mothers Have Options at the Fair
Nursing mothers may feel like they need to stay home in order to feed their babies but WIC has created an alternative.
Just below the grandstands sits a station for mothers to breast feed comfortably. With a rocking chair to sit in and mobile curtains, mothers have the opportunity to create a space to fit their individual needs.
A fan is placed in the station as well which can provide a breeze to cool your baby off after a day at the fair. Mother Alissa Higginbotham said she’s glad to see that breast feeding mothers are being supported.
“I think the issue is just a choice," said Higginbotham. "It works for some moms and it doesn’t but I think this is just more encouraging that the moms that are breast feeding have a place to go to feel like they’re not being scrutinized and just nurse their babies and comfort them.”
Although the focus is to help mothers with private nursing, dads are invited to stop by and use the changing station available as well.
