Ohio Army National Guard Recruitment Tour

MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio- The Ohio Army National Guard has been making their rounds to local media outlets promoting the benefits of the organization.
Brigadier General Thomas Moore II, the commander of the Ohio Army National Guard focused on how the organization provides additional skill programs and not just training.
“Sometimes people are concerned about what the next generation brings to the fight and I will tell you that the soldiers that we have today are phenomenal. The opportunities that are available to our soldiers are getting better everyday. The programs that we have, the programs that we establish and the programs that we continue to create.”
General Moore said that the Ohio National Guard provides education funding and community leadership opportunities like volunteering with food banks
Both Sergeant Dylan Helmick and Sergeant Bonnie McGrath shared their journey and why they encourage those to take some interest in the organization.
“The Ohio Army National Guard is dual funded so we have a State and Federal mission meaning that we have funding coming from both the Governor and as well as the President. That kind of helps us in the fact of college incentives,” Sergeant Helmick said. “We have state funding so we have a 100 percent scholarship program to any state funding schools in the state of Ohio,”
Sergeant McGrath added her experience with the Ohio Army National Guard and how it allows them to focus on personal careers as well.
“In the National Guard military side I do air defense artillery radar operators and on the personal side I do physical therapy and it’s that way with a lot of troops. They have the opportunity to serve their community and nation, but they can have a civilian career as well,” Sergeant McGrath said.
The commitment required by the Ohio Army National Guard is for troops to only complete one weekend a month and two weeks in the summer.
