Ohio Lt. Gov. Tressel Chats with Students about Statewide Fitness Challenge

WEST LAFAYETTE, OH – On Monday, Ohio Lieutenant Governor Jim Tressel made a stop at Ridgewood Middle School in Coshocton County to talk to students about the Team Tressel Fitness Challenge.
As a part of Gov. Mike DeWine’s effort to make Ohioans healthier and help every person live their best lives, he and Lt. Gov. Tressel, have launched the Team Tressel Fitness Challenge.
This is a 90-day journey that helps Ohio students build healthy habits in their physical activities, sleep, and nutrition through personalized goal setting.
“We were with the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th graders who have adopted the Fitness Challenge, who are two weeks into it.” Lt. Gov. Tressel said. “You can tell they know what’s going on, they’re excited, they’re focused, they did a great job as we were doing some of the demonstrations and you could see they’ve been doing it. It was just a great day.”
Throughout the challenge, students will progress through three levels; Bronze, Silver, and Gold.
Students pick the core area they would like to work on and they can choose from a plethora of activities to do from their challenge workbooks.
Tressel says the goal of the Fitness Challenge is to help students not only create healthy habits but gain some useful skills they can carry with them into adulthood.
“I think it’s teaching them to reflect a little bit because we talk a lot about quiet time, reflection time,” Tressel explained. “Have that attitude of gratitude but also developing that discipline, that this is just something that’s a part of my life. I’m going to eat right, I’m going to sleep right, and I’m going to move around.”
More than 182,000 students from over 700 schools statewide are currently participating in the Fitness Challenge.
