Ohioans Suggest “Caylee’s Law”
The Casey Anthony case continues to entice the nation with protests, debates, and support to her deceased daughter Caylee.
Hundreds of Ohioans have e-mailed and called State Representatives outraged that the 2 year-old was not reported missing for a month. Local Resident Margie Glab has been following the case and has three children of her own and said, she doesn’t understand how Casey seemed to be everything but frantic.
"Just the thought of her child being gone for thirty days that would just be devastating," said Glab. "I don’t know how you could just sit back or go to a bar or whatever you’re going to do and not even think about your child don’t know how you do that."
In response to citizens such as Glab, Ohio State Representative Michael Stinziano drafted ‘Caylee’s Law.’ The proposed law would make it a felony for parents to not report the death of a child within an hour or within twenty-four hours of a child gone missing. Glab supports the bill but still expresses frustration.
"They always should have had it," said Glab. "I don’t know why they have to wait for a disaster like this to happen before they even think about making laws. They should have always been in the making."
The bill is only in the beginning stages and will likely be discussed in the House this fall. Casey Anthony has been sentenced to one year for each count of lying to officials. With time served taken into account she will be released next Sunday.
