Old Steam and Gas Opens New Building on the Fairgrounds
ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Old Steam and Gas Club is a local organization that exhibits the antique machinery, which helped to mechanize the farming industry.
2025 marks the first year for the club’s permanent display building, which is located between gates 1 and 2 at the Muskingum County Fairgrounds, where there was a twine cutting ceremony performed during the first day of the fair to celebrate its opening.
“This building we’re standing at and you all are looking at has been a dream of the Old Steam and Gas Club for many, many years. The idea actually came about here at the fair, when we had the tent down the road. And probably 5-6-years-ago, there was a conversation among just a handful of people that night; wonder what? What if? Could we put something here?” Old Steam and Gas Club President Brad McCune said.
After meeting with the fair board and earning the support of Fair Board Members Dave Kreis and Doug Guinsler, the building turned into a reality and now houses some of the antique farming equipment that has been donated to the club.
“We’ve got two big shows a year, one of them is here at the fair and we encourage everybody to stop by,” McCune said. “There’s a lot of tractors to look at, as well as the new building. This year’s feature was Ford and Cub Cadet. And so there’s a lot of Cub Cadet garden tractors out here under the tent beside us. Our other big show of the year is at the mall. That’s usually held in April. And so those are our two big functions as far as a club.”
Several of the club’s members show their equipment at various agricultural shows, while many others participate in tractor pulling events. The club often hosts garden tractor pulling events at Gaumer Park in Adamsville, which offers a very affordable entry into the world of motorsports.
