One Dead in Early Morning Accident

The Zanesville Post of the Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal accident. It happened just after 6:00 Tuesday morning on I-70 near Gratiot. Lieutenant Matt Boyd says 47-year-old Scott Hendershot of St. Clairsville was traveling west on the interstate, fell asleep, drove through the median into the eastbound lanes, where he overturned and ejected the steel coil he was hauling. Boyd says the steel coil then struck the vehicle of 27-year-old Raliat Ikharo of Columbus which threw her into the guardrail. Ms. Ikharo was pronounced dead at the scene. Hendershot suffered minor injuries. Lt. Boyd says the crash remains under investigation and charges are pending. The eastbound lanes of I-70 were closed for over three hours while the scene was cleared.
