One Last Look at the John McIntire Library

ZANESVILLE, OH – The Muskingum County Library System is inviting the community to take a last look at the beloved John McIntire Library.

MCLS will be hosting their Last Look Party at the Library on Friday, Nov. 1 from 5:30 to 7PM.

Stacey Russell, the Executive Director of MCLS, said this is not only a chance to say goodbye to the old, but also take a look at some of the new that’s coming to the library.

“We will also include a sneak peek of the renderings,” Russell said. “The library will close, as we know it now. As you can see behind me, the empty shelves, we’ve been preparing for the remodel. We will close at the end of the day on November 2nd and then reopen on Monday November 11th in our temporary location in the Carnegie Wing of the building.”

Russell said the library will then be closed for 14 to 16 months to complete the remodel.

She said that some of the plans include moving the children’s area to the lower level of the building, adding additional meeting spaces with enhanced technology, as well as adding more restrooms.

“We’ve had a refresh in the last 10 to 15 years, but we’ve not had a remodel of this scale for 33 years, so it’s really important,” Russell said. “If you think about everything that has changed in our lives in the last 33 years, it’s a big difference.”

While the library is closed for the remodel, the Carnegie Wing will serve as a branch location.
