One Scholarship Application Remains Open at MCCF

The Muskingum County Community Foundation is still accepting applications for one scholarship and offering help with financial aid.

This is the first year the Nick Tilton Memorial Scholarship is being offered. Administrative Assistant, Katie McCarty, said the scholarship is restricted to West Muskingum students who have participated in extra-curricular activities.

“It was started this year in memoriam of Nick,” McCarty said. “Started by an anonymous donor, and they specifically said that they wanted it for a West Muskingum student, so it’s what the donor wanted so that’s why we’re doing it.”

West Muskingum students interested in applying for the $500 scholarship can apply online at www.mccf.org by April 24. Even though this is the last scholarship MCCF is accepting applications for, McCarty said the Community Foundation is able to help students applying for scholarships outside the ones it offers.

“We are open all summer to help with specifically that,” McCarty said. “Students can come in, they can get help with their financial aid if they’re still in that process, we can help them with that. If they’re not really sure if they need to take a loan or if there’s anything else available, we’re here to help walk them through that whole process.”

McCarty said students should exhaust all scholarship options before going to loans because scholarships are “free money.”
