Opening Ceremony for Ohio’s Flags of Honor
More than 100 people came out to show their support for Ohio’s fallen solders.
The Ohio Flags of Honor traveling memorial was unveiled Friday evening at Zane’s Landing Park.
The memorial was started by Gino Zimmer, who lost his son in Iraq.
"I just needed to do something, bumper stickers didn’t cut it anymore, and saying I supported our troops didn’t work, and so I started doing this, and this worked for me to heal," said Zimmer.
Members of the Zanesville Football Team, among other volunteers, helped place flags with the names of fallen soldiers in the park.
Zimmer said he’s proud his son died fighting to defend the freedom that many American’s hold so dear.
"I’ll always miss him. Sure I would wish him back here, but you know the cost of freedom, and you know that’s what he died for," added Zimmer.
The display will be open to the public through May 20th at 1 pm.
