Opportunity Fair Seeks Local Businesses at Mid-East
Mid-East is gearing up for the second annual Opportunity Fair.
The fair aims to give students a look at area job opportunities and to do so they need the help of local businesses. Senior Health Technology student Rachel Tolliver said that Mid-East is full of students who are ready to join the work force with training they’ve received at school and now they’re eager to start a career in the local community.
“We are treated like adults although we are still students,” said Tolliver. “We have a lot of things that are expected of us. We’re treated like we’re already in the workforce. As you can see i’m in my scrubs. We have certain things that we have to do or we don’t get our certifications and things like that but I would say for anybody that wants to come in and get a place here and kind of look at students that they might be interested in employing i’d say that’d be a really good idea. ”
Businesses interested in joining the opportunity fair should confirm their participation by Nov. 1 as the fair is scheduled for Nov. 10. Tolliver said that if area businesses come to Mid-East it can offer a stress free environment for students to explore career paths in a comfortable setting.
“As a high school student it’s really nerve racking gets you kind of anxious when you go out and you’re in a place that’s unfamiliar to you and you don’t know what to expect, you get nervous and you don’t ask a lot of questions but having them come here in a place that we’ve been with and we’re familiar with, we are more comfortable and we can go up and ask a lot more questions and get a lot more information from them,” said Tolliver.
Parents are also invited to join their students in the exploration at the fair and staff members from Mid-East will be at school to talk with parents and students as well.
