The 5KM ‘Run for Recovery’ in honor of addiction and the recovery process is happening this weekend.

The run will take place at Ohio University of Zanesville and Zane State College Cora Rogge Pavilion on Saturday morning. Registration begins at 9 a.m and the race starts at 9:45 a.m. Project Coordinator, Desiree Shannon said the purpose of the 5KM is to raise awareness of addiction.

“To give these men who have nothing that their going into this process with the support from the recovery house but, nothing else. Basically, we’re just trying to get these items. That’s really what’s most important about this part, we want to show these people in the house that we really care about them and that the community actually thinks about them,” said Shannon.

Shannon said it’s important for the community to be aware of this issue because addiction is a real problem that may tend to get over-looked.

“We want to bring that out in the open. We want people to be comfortable. So we can help those who are actually going through addiction and trying to recover from it ultimately we’re trying to spread the word and show hey this is an issue and we want you to know that,” said Shannon.

There is no fee for the run. Admission is a donation of a household item is however preferred.
