OUZ Hosts Annual Good Samaritan Blanket Drive

ZANESVILLE, OH – A local University is gearing up for their annual blanket drive.

Ohio University-Zanesville and the Student Nurses Association’s annual Good Samaritan Blanket Drive kicked off on Nov. 4th and runs until Dec. 3rd.

Lezlie Lucas, the Nursing Operation Coordinator at OUZ, said this is an opportunity for the Student Nurses at OUZ to carry on the legacy of the Good Samaritan Nursing class of 1960.

“We want to continue to participate in that, to provide residents with warm blankets for the winter,” Lucas said, “I think one of the great things we do at OUZ is, we don’t only teach the science of nursing, but we also teach the art of nursing and part of the art of nursing is service and compassion for the community.”

There will be multiple blanket drop off locations located around the OUZ campus.

Lucas said the most commonly forgotten about blankets are baby blankets.

She said that they will accept any new or gently used and laundered blankets.

“We [just] want our students to gain the concept and idea of part of being a nurse is service and caring for individuals,” Lucas said. “Not only the ones they’re treating in a facility but for the community as a whole.”

All of the blankets collected through the Good Sam Blanket Drive will be donated to Eastside Community Ministry, just in time for the holidays.
