Overindulging During the Holiday Season

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – When the holidays roll around, many people think it gives them allowance to overdo things, not just with shopping and gift giving, but with food.

Mick Amicone of Fieldhouse Fitness Center told us the issue is people feel that they can overindulge now, then work it off for their new years resolution. When the new year begins people are motivated to get into shape and lose weight in only a few months, but that’s just not the case.

“The fallacy in most of our minds is that I’m gonna try it again this year and I’m really gonna stick to it. But unfortunately there are things that come into play. One, is you’re not going to change your entire lifestyle in 90 days, most research shows, American College of Sports Medicine said it’s gonna take you from 120 to 160 days to see a different in inches, in pounds, in energy, and in weight loss,” Amicone said.

Other factors include your current health and life situations, such as unemployment or mourning the loss of a loved one, where people compensate through eating. Amicone said people are often not motivated to work out anymore when they do not see immediate results.

“We give up too soon. We don’t look at those little, teeny, very small, minute improvements as an improvement,” he said.

Amicone added that change begins with the full fitness within a person, including their emotional and spiritual state, and physical well being.
