PAWS of Muskingum County Hosts Successful Spay and Neuter Clinic

ZANESVILLE, OH – A local group is continuing its mission to help control the pet population in Muskingum County.

PAWS of Muskingum County hosted a Spay and Neuter Clinic on Wednesday. The Rascal Clinic at the Washington Township Fire Department.

Teresa Hildebrand, the President of PAWS, said, in total, 30 dogs and 28 cats were able to receive vaccines, a wellness check and a spay or neuter procedure. She says the reason for hosting this clinic is because there is an influx of puppies and kittens being born here in our County.

“This is really important for our community. We are drowning in puppies and kittens in our shelters and rescues,” Hildebrand said. “This is the first step you’ve got to do, this is prevention.”

PAWS is also gearing up for a weekend full of food, fun, and furry friends. The Festival of PAWS will be held this Saturday, May 4th, from 9AM to 5PM at the Ohio University Zanesville and Zane State College campuses. There will be food trucks, vendors, and even a 1K Fun Run, or Walk, with your four legged best friend.

Hildebrand said they are hosting this fundraising event to raise funds for a new project that’s been in the works.

“We’re looking to try to establish an actual building for our organization and this is going to be one of our fundraisers,” Hildebrand said. “Also the reason we’re doing this is because we need to get our name out there. People realize there’s the Animal Shelter, but they don’t realize we’re separate from the Animal Shelter. That the Humane Society is separate from the Animal Shelter, they’re different groups but they all kind of get lumped together.”
