Pet Friendly Salt for the Purrr-Fect Winter
ZANESVILLE, OH –The Animal Shelter Society is sending out a big thank you to those who came out to community pancake day.
The money raised from the annual event helps support several local nonprofits including the Animal Shelter Society.
Animal Shelter Society Executive Director April Gibson would like to express her gratitude.
“We’re really thrilled it helps the animal shelter society. Those folks coming together, 3-4 thousand people, come to eat delicious pancakes of course, but they’re also there to say thank you I believe. We ask a lot of our community, and our community gives back to us. We’re just very thankful that we’re able to split that among the five non-profits and put it back into ours and our day-to-day operations to help the animals.”
With the winter weather approaching, Gibson said they are taking steps to make sure the animals at the shelter are safe when they head outdoors.
“We have to change what we do here when we drop to certain temperatures for our animals, especially with our dogs that go outside,” Gibson said. “It’s really important that they do not walk on ice in the adverse weather conditions, so we put down the pet friendly salt. We really don’t care what brand it is as long as it’s pet friendly because it can really affect their paws, so we are looking for donations to get that in here, we want to stockpile it a little bit so that we’re prepared. They deserve to go out and get fresh air just like we do. It’s best for their mental health and it makes them better animals here while they’re waiting for their forever homes.”
If you would like to donate, the animal shelter will be hosting their annual Santa Paws Drive until late December. For more information regarding donations or straw pickup for the winter please visit their website.
