Pinson Wins National Title in Speech Competition
One local fourth-grader beat out other students from across the country to become the first place winner in a national speech competition.
Zanesville’s very own, Caroline Pinson, proved she had what it takes to compete in the Fraternal Order of Eagles International Convention over the weekend in Milwaukee. She talked to us about the experience.
“It went great, I heard the other speeches they were very good too, I could tell they were a little nervous, and I was really nervous too,” she said. “I got up there and I did my best, and I started and I wasn’t nervous anymore, so it went really great and I was excited.”
Pinson wrote a three-minute speech about her grandfather, on the topic of “God, Flag, and Country.” The army veteran attended the event with Pinson, to see her share his story with hundreds of people.
“He was really excited too, and he said that he was actually surprised that I won, because it was about him,” she said.
Pinson not only won a trophy, but also took home a check for $1,000.
