Police: Complex security guards fired upon, one returns fire

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Police say they are investigating after shots were fired at several apartment complex security guards, one of whom returned fire outside the Ohio complex. No injuries were reported.
Police in Columbus said the victims, who work security for the Colonial Village complex on the city’s east side, were on routine patrol at about 3:45 a.m. Sunday when they were flagged down by someone in front of a bus stop.
The victims thought the suspect needed assistance, and they stopped and got out of their marked security vehicles and approached, police said. Two of the victims recognized the man as someone with whom they had had a confrontation the night before, they said.
Police said the suspect told the victims “he had something for them” and pulled a handgun from his waistband and pointed it at the guards. They say he tried to fire but didn’t have a round in the chamber, and that gave the victims time to take shelter by one of the security vehicles.
Police said the suspect fired twice as he was backing up towards the building, and one of the guards fired a round at the suspect before he fled. Police said no one was struck in the exchange of gunfire.
