Police shoot fugitive in Cleveland Walmart parking lot

CLEVELAND (AP) — A “violent fugitive” tracked from New Mexico was shot and wounded by members of a law enforcement task force Friday in the parking lot of a busy Walmart store in Cleveland, authorities said.
A Cleveland police spokesperson identified the suspect as Dewayne Taylor, 31, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Taylor is hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries, said the spokesperson, Sgt. Jennifer Ciaccia.
Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams told reporters Friday afternoon that the suspect was shot shortly before noon by members of the interagency Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force when he pulled a weapon as officers tried to arrest him. A gun was recovered at the scene, Ciaccia said.
No other injuries were reported.
Taylor was confronted by law enforcement officers in New Mexico on Dec. 4 where he pointed a gun at members of a law enforcement task force and fled, Ciaccia said.
