Possible Tornado in White Cottage Area

Avondale, OH- A possible tornado struck the area of White Cottage and Avondale Friday evening.

Muskingum County Emergency Management Director Jeff Jadwin said that the storm struck White Cottage, the Darlington Road area near Maysville Schools and Avondale.

He said at this time there are branches and power lines down all across the area and many roads are closed, including State Route 93 between the intersection of Maysville Pike and Powell Drive.

They are asking people to stay out of the area. Jadwin also advised those thinking about cutting up tree branches to avoid doing so as there may be downed electric lines. Please wait until the power is completely off in the area before doing any work.

A shelter has been open at Newton Township Fire Department for those that need assistance.

American Electric Power said that nearly 2,000 customers are without service at this time. Jadwin believes power will be out for a substantial amount of time.
