Pottery Week Winds Down

Pottery Week is winding down across Southeastern Ohio. Today was the last day for the ten-day event.

Hartstone Pottery out of Zanesville is one of the many businesses who participated throughout the week. Director of Tourism Dawn Lafferty says visitors kept them quite busy this week.

“Wednesday was our busiest day so far this year,” said Lafferty. “We maybe had 48 transactions on Wednesday, but all week was busy, clear up through yesterday.”

Lafferty says October and Christmastime are also busy parts of the the year. She says after Christmas, the winter is slower.

“Normally we pick things back up after winter, winter is a slow time for us,” she said. “We start to pick back up in March, but this year it started a little later in April. But our wholesale accounts have really carried us through in the slower times of year.”

She says the company has several contracts which make up their wholesale sales, but the visitors enjoy what’s on the show floor.

“Our summer garden has been very popular,” she said. “Second would be our Ohio State pottery. That’s a big seller for us year round, but our summer garden was very popular this year. I just think all of our patterns are very beautiful and decorative as well as functional, the artwork that’s involved.”

During Pottery Week, Hartstone featured discounts on first quality pottery. They also gave away a pottery gift basket.
