Radium Girls take the stage at The Renner in Zanesville

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The stage is set at the Renner Theatre for their production of Radium Girls by D.W. Gregory.

The cast and crew bring a story to life as factory girls who painted luminous watch dials with radium fight back against the corporations that poisoned them. Their legal battle against the United States Radium Corporation was a real event that led to the creation of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

“A lot of the people had never even heard of this story and didn’t realize that painting radium on dials for watches and clocks was an actual thing. And once the cast learned that, that’s what drove the cast to do a super job because they realized that this is a story from history that needs to be retold,” said Eric Blake.

Actors like Blake and Olivia Kirkbride are excited to not only bring a compelling story to the stage but also to teach an audience about the impact the radium girls had in the modern workplace.

“I’m looking forward to more people learning this story and hearing about it as well. Because, like I say, you know myself, I knew nothing about this. So, I’m hoping that when my friends and family come see they will learn something new and enjoy the show as well,” Kirkbride said.

The show opens on Friday, April 24 at 7:30 p.m. in the Renner at 148 North 7th Street in Zanesville. You can find additional show times and ticket prices on their website.
