Railway Takes You From Zanesville to Charleston
Inside a building downtown, you can take a trip from Zanesville to Charleston, West Virginia.
Since 1991 members of the Zane Trace National Trail Model Railroad Club have been building a miniature railroad. The train tracks wind around the room and take you on a simulated journey from Zanesville to Charleston and it has gained national attention.
"It is a nice model railroad, it has been in model railroad magazine, been in tracks ahead, we had people that call sometimes and ask to see it from out of state, from as far away as California and a gentleman was just up here the other night from Florida," says Rick Gooden the VP of ZTNT Model Railroad Club.
The train set has around 500 pieces and is opening their doors to the public Saturday for a spring show. Gooden says it is family friendly and the club is always looking for new members, especially young members.
"They don’t just sit there and play the games, they learn things, they learn wood working and putting things together and actually doing things with their hands," says Gooden.
The spring show is Saturday morning from noon until 5 p.m. The model railway is located at the top floor of the Business Expo building at the corner of 4th and Market Street in downtown Zanesville. Admission is donation based.
