Reading Your Way Through Winter

While area kids take part in the summer reading program, winter’s the time for adults to crack open the pages of a book.

The Muskingum County Library System is once again offering their "Book bags to Go" program. Each of the 750 bags available contain three books, each of a certain genre.

Adults check-out the bag of their choice, read and return the books and keep the bag. The library began the winter program do to response from adult readers.

Within ten days of the program’s start last year all the bags were gone.

"It’s extremely well received they enjoy discovering different genres, new authors, topics they might generally not think to borrow and they like that it introduces them and makes reading convenient for them," explained Assistant Director Blair Tom.

Tom said taking part in reading as adults encourages discover, learning and creating. It also encourages younger readers.

"In addition to their enjoyment and pleasure it’s important for children to see adults, parents, mentors, role models valuing and enjoying reading, so it has that impact as well," said Tom.

The "Book Bags to Go" are available at all Muskingum County Library branches.
