ZANESVILLE, OH – Once again, the Red Cross is asking the community to roll up their sleeves to help save lives.

The American Red Cross is continuing to encourage blood donations as supplies remain in constant need. Officials say every donation can help patients facing emergencies, surgeries, cancer treatments, and more.

“We always see a drop in blood during the summer because folks are busy, their schedules are changing up, or kids are out of school. Whenever there’s a disruption in the schedule of donations, there’s a disruption in the amount of blood that we have on the shelves, and that blood on the shelf is vital to helping folks for regular or scheduled procedures and emergency procedures which we will see an uptick in through the summer.” Regional Communications Manager, Don Hawkins said.

Those who donate by May 31st will receive an oversized Red Cross beach towel while supplies last. Then, anyone who donates between June 1st and June 28th will receive a 15-dollar e-gift card to a merchant of their choice. The Red Cross says donating blood is a quick and easy process that can make a lasting impact.

“When you get to the blood drive, you’ll be in and out in about 45 minutes to an hour if they’re really busy. It’s a very quick process. We’d love to get you in, and we’d love to get you out.” Hawkins said.

You can visit the American Red Cross website to schedule a time to donate or call 1-800-RED-CROSS.
