Remembering James Joseph Kobunski Sr.
The Zanesville community lost a very well loved and prominent member Tuesday.
79 year old James Joseph Kobunski Sr. was born in Zanesville in 1935 where he lived his whole life. Kobunski graduated from Rosecrans High School and began working for McGraw-Edison almost immediately. We spoke to David McGlade, son in law of Kobunski who told us more about the things he was involved with.
“About 29 he was hired on as a salesman for a new car dealership here in Zanesville . The local Tansky dealership. In three short years, he was promoted to General Manager where he has remained since 1965. This year is his 50th year as General Manager.”
Mcglade says his father in law was a big fan of the Cleveland Cavaliers, was very involved in local athletics and coached junior high basketball and baseball at St. Nicholas. He also managed a baseball team called the Phi-Dunks. Kobunski served not only his community but also his country, as he was a member of the United States National Guard. McGlade says he had a very kind personality.
“Jim was a sweet, kindhearted, humble gentleman in all respects and again I cant say more how devoted he was to his wife, and his kids and particularly his grandchildren…a fine gentleman in all respects with a million dollar smile.”
He is survived by his wife Jo Ann Crowell Kobunski, sister, four children and eight grandchildren and his nieces and nephews. If you would like to leave a note of condolence for the family members, you can do so via the Snouffer Funeral Home website: www.snoufferfuneralhome.com
