ZANESVILLE,Ohio- Â A major water project in Muskingum County is moving one step closer to becoming a reality.
The Huntington US Army Corps of Engineers and the Muskingum County Commissioners are working together to bring running water to the residents of Cannelville. These residents rely primarily on well water. During Monday’s meeting, the commissioners and the army corp of engineers signed the project partnership agreement to expand the county water supply along Old River Road and down Route 555.
“This is getting Muskingum County water supply for residents and businesses along the route,” Captain Eric McKinney said. “We have preliminary plans and specs we are reviewing, potentially over the next two to three years for this project.”
Captain McKinney said this plan will affect roughly 350 homes and businesses. He also said this is the county’s project and the army corps of engineers is partnering with the county to provide technical expertise, as well as funding.
“The 594 program is for projects like this in the State of Ohio, whether it’s waste water treatment or clean water in rural communities,” McKinney said.
McKinney said there’s a vetting process throughout the state, and this project was at the top of the list.
