Rev. John Willis Tickner (December 12, 1942 – October 25, 2011)
Rev. John Willis Tickner, 68, of Zanesville, Ohio, died October 25, 2011, at home. He was born December 12, 1942 in Warren, Pennsylvania to the late Willis and Margaret (Farnsworth) Tickner. He graduated from Thiel College in 1964 and from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia in 1967. He was ordained into the Lutheran ministry on June 8, 1967. Rev. Tickner was the pastor at Brookville Lutheran Parish, Brookville, PA, 1967 – 1971; Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Erie, PA, 1971 – 1977; Trinity Lutheran Church, Ellwood City, PA, 1977 – 1988; Immanuel Lutheran Church, Erie, PA, 1988 – 1996; and Martin Luther Lutheran Church, Youngstown, OH, 2001 – 2002. He served as Assistant to the Bishop of the Northwestern Pennsylvania Synod from 1996 – 2001, and as Assistant to the Bishop of the Southern Ohio Synod from 2002 until his retirement in 2008. His community involvement included: YMCA Board of Directors, Brookville, PA; Lutheran Home Board, Erie, PA; Thiel College Board of Trustees, Greenville, PA; Hospice of Metropolitan Erie, PA; Superintendent Search Committee, Wattsburg School District, PA; Ellwood City Rotary Club, Ellwood City, PA; and many Synod committees
Rev. Tickner is survived by his wife, Patricia (Reiter), whom he married December 26, 1964; daughter, Gwen (Aaron) Carmack of Columbus, OH; son, John M. (Mozella) Tickner of Erie, PA; grandchildren, Jacqueline, Jeremy and James Tickner of Erie, PA; sister, Jean Tickner of Spring Hill, FL; aunts, Patricia Steubing of Jamestown, NY, and Rowena Littrell of Austin, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Charles Tickner.
Friends may call from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 Thursday, October 27 at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME, 1150 WEST MILITARY ROAD, ZANESVILLE, OHIO 43701. Services will be held at 2:00 Friday, October 28 at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 1330 Pine Street, Zanesville, OH 43701, Bishop Callon Holloway presiding and Rev. Brian George preaching.
