RHDD Hosts 2nd Annual Prom

Some local developmentally disabled residents had the chance to go to prom Wednesday evening.

The Residential Home for the Developmentally Disabled put on its Mardi Gras themed prom at Coburn United Methodist Church. Executive Director Lisa Bash says this is the second year they have done this for those with special needs.

"I think it’s going amazing. The promenade has always been the biggest favorite. Some folks have rented limousines to come in and arrive just like anyone else would for prom," said Lisa Bash, Executive Director.

Both Bash and Thomas say having an event like this is important not only for those with disabilities, but also to the public.

"Because people with developmental disabilities are just like you and I and they should have the same opportunities as you and I. And when I was 17 and 18 years old and had my prom, it was one of the biggest nights of my life, and it’s our pleasure to be able to offer this to the folks we work with," said Bash.

Most prom-goers had the chance to bring dates and many invited their family to the event.
