ZANESVILLE, Ohio- As many families are preparing for Thanksgiving tomorrow there are others in the community that have nowhere to go. Today the Salvation Army opened its doors to those in need of a good meal.

Each year the Salvation Army hosts a Thanksgiving Dinner. People line up at the door in anticipation for the holiday feast. Jennifer Bates, the Pathway for Hope Coordinator at the Salvation Army, says it’s important to give everyone a chance to feel the excitement of a traditional Thanksgiving dinner.

“They want to know do we have pumpkin pie, do we have pecan pie, can they have an extra roll. Just things that you would do at home. We want that to be what they experience here. Fellowship and love. Just like you would have at your house.”

Bates also stressed that community is key. When the organization put out the message that they were in need of food, the community stepped in and donated everything they needed. And over 50 volunteers including the Boy Scouts and Mayor Jeff Tilton showed up to lend a hand.

“Everybody just looks out for those people that are less fortunate and makes sure that they have a meal…for Thanksgiving. So that’s great. This community is always giving.

The Salvation Army is just one of the many organizations feeding those in need for the holiday. Tomorrow Christ’s Table will be open from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. serving the community.
