Salvation Army looking for volunteers

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Though it is only July, The Salvation Army in Zanesville is preparing for their annual Christmas Kettles.
The famous tradition of Christmas Kettles takes place from November 12th till December 24th. Salvation Army of Zanesville Envoy, George Bates said they need several volunteers to make the fundraiser so successful.
“We are looking for volunteers, that is our biggest effort. It is our biggest fundraiser. There is so many things that we do. We have so many things going on but that is the big one for us, a lot rides on that so we need to get started right away,” Bates said.
Bates said it only takes 5 to 10 people a day to work a kettle. He said it is common for entire families, church groups, even school groups to help out. The Salvation Army offers many things for the community, that the money raised helps run.
“First thing I think of is our soup kitchen. We have been getting slammed in our soup kitchen. We are serving over 100 people a night now. We have that we have utility assistance, rental assistance, we have a shelter that is big,” added Bates.
