Schubach Big Band celebrates the season with upcoming free holiday concert

ZANESVILLE, OH- The Schubach Big Band is getting ready to celebrate the season with their holiday concert, “Home for the Holidays.” The performance is at 7 p.m. at Central Presbyterian Church on North 6th Street in Zanesville. Thanks to support from The J.W. and M.H. Straker Charitable Foundation, the concert is free for all ages.
The 17-piece band, now in its 14th year, features four vocalists and a mix of traditional holiday music, pop favorites, and swing band classics. They’ll even add a few playful touches, like sleigh bells to help bring the season to life.
“We have a lot of fun with this, and I get to write most of the music, that’s what my life’s work has been, so I put a whole lot of notes on paper but then it gets to come to life, it’s a real joy to hear these professional musicians from around the region play music I’ve written,” said Schubach Big Band Leader David Schubach.
Musicians return each year for the chance to play fresh material crafted specifically for the ensemble.
“I humbly say we’re the best big band between Columbus and Wheeling, and the players tell me they like this band especially because they get to do charts they wouldn’t play in other bands, this is not the standard Frank Sinatra charts, a lot of them are very unique to our band that I’ve written specifically for the players that we have and they enjoy that,” said Schubach.
The concert is open to everyone, offering a warm and lively kickoff to the holiday season on night.
