Scotties use big second-half from King to top Philo

PHILO, Ohio — The Tri-Valley Scotties remained in first place in the MVL after defeating Philo 51-35 on Monday night at The Power Plant.
After a defensive first half, the two teams were separated by just two points at the break with the Scotties holding a slim 20-18 lead. The second half belonged to Matt King and Tri-Valley though.
King drained an early third-quarter three-pointer to put the Scotties ahead 29-25, and senior Jake Mcloughlin drained a jumper from the baseline with just seconds before the buzzer sounded to extend Tri-Valley’s lead to 33-27 heading to the final quarter. Mcloughlin scored nine points on the night and grabbed 10 rebounds.
In the final eight minutes, King drained three more three-point shots, adding a left-handed driving lay-up to help the Scotties pull away for the 51-35 victory. King lead all scorers all the night with 14 points.
Both teams are back in action on Tuesday night. Tri-Valley hosts New Lexington at The Dawg House, while Philo travels to The Kiln to take on the Crooksville Ceramics.
