Secrest Auditorium to Undergo Massive Renovation with Help from State Grant

ZANESVILLE, OH – The City of Zanesville has announced plans to renovate a well known music hall in downtown.

The Secrest Auditorium is set to undergo major renovations that will include a new grand lobby and event space.

Mayor of Zanesville, Don Mason, said this massive project couldn’t have been done without a little help.

“Zanesville is very pleased and we feel very honored that Governor DeWine and Lieutenant Governor Husted and the Department of Development and the Governor’s Office of Appalachia have all worked together to give the City of Zanesville roughly a $6.5 Million grant,” Mayor Mason said. “That we’ll be using to do renovations to the Secrest Auditorium. There will be a new entrance, a new lobby area, escalators, elevators, things of that nature. And as importantly, or most importantly, larger restrooms and more restrooms.”

Mayor Mason said some of the funds will also be going to improving the surrounding streetscape and parking lot at Secrest.

“It’s really all about quality of life. We want people to know that if you’re retiring, you can stay here, there’s going to be things to do,” Mason said. “Likewise, if your children are having your grandchildren then especially, in the new day and age, of a lot of hybrid jobs where sometimes people work in the office, sometimes at home. We think the quality of life amenities in Zanesville will be such that our parents can have their children living here locally, having their families, because we still think having a strong family unit or network is really important to the upbringing of children.”

Mayor Mason said the hope now is to head to the bidding process by summer and the work to begin in the fall.
