ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The Muskingum County Center for Seniors has an important levy coming up on the May 2nd ballot.

Ann Combs, Executive Director of the Muskingum County Center for Seniors, spoke at Noon Rotary about the upcoming levy and its importance.

“It is our operating levy, it is a renewal there is no increase in taxes it is a 5-year, 5-mill levy so we’re very hopeful the voters will turn out and give us their support ,” said Combs. “Our levy brings in 45 percent of our operating budget and we are able to serve a tremendous amount of seniors all over the county.”

Combs said the center provides a number of resources for seniors such as meals and nutrition programs, transportation and support services. Resources that she said are necessary as people age.

“It’s so important,  you know, we all age and as we go through that process not a lot of us are necessarily prepared for what that process holds for us,” said Combs. “We aren’t prepared for that time when possibly we’ve aged we’re not able to drive any longer or we need education and sometimes the children have moved on or you’re an aged orphan and don’t really have a resource to reach out to for help and assistance and that’s why its so important that we stay.”

The center currently serves 600 seniors in Muskingum County.
