Severe Weather Awareness Week

ZANESVILLE, OH – Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has designated this week as Severe Weather Awareness Week.

Governor DeWine is encouraging all Ohioans to prepare themselves for spring and summer weather hazards like thunder, lightning, tornadoes, and floods.

Travis Roach, Deputy Director of the Muskingum County EMA, said the most important thing you can do is be prepared for anything.

“Have your communications planned and have a plan for incase of disasters,” Roach said. “Have some emergency items on hand and just keep an eye on the weather. Also try to sign up for any weather alerts if possible, if you have a cellular phone or home phone.”

Roach said some of those items you should have on hand are a radio, water, food, and any medications you may need.

He also said the Statewide tornado siren test will be conducted Wednesday morning.

“At 9:50AM is the statewide tornado test drill,” Roach said. “Following that, every week following that will be at Noon for our county drills.”

If you would like to receive Muskingum County Citizens alerts, you can head to the EMA’s website.
