Skating for a Scholarship

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A scholarship that benefits trade students has been created to honor the late Adrian Ramos Sr.

A major fundraiser for the scholarship takes place each holiday season at the Lind Arena on Linden Avenue in Zanesville. Event Organizer Faith Cornell remembered Ramos and explained the significance of the scholarship.

“He loved to skate and he loved… really all things with wheels,” Cornell said. “So we kind of put this on as a memorial to just kind of, in honor of him and also to raise funds for a scholarship that is in his name as well. And so we thought that it was appropriate to support trade students and we have a preference for the automotive trades.”

This year marks the third year for the scholarship, which has been established with the Muskingum County Community Foundation. And the amount of the scholarship relies on the revenues generated from the skating fundraiser.

“Basically it’s just a regular skate session but then you have that added opportunity to participate in all those other things that are going on. And the cruise-in will be held in the lot next to the skating rink. So definitely feel free to use that whole lot and you can overflow into the Burrell Funeral Services parking lot. That’s also across La Salle Street. Hopefully we can fill up those lots, that would be really great,” Lind Arena Owner Lynn Burrell said.

The 80s themed Adrian Ramos Sr. Memorial Skate and Cruise-in will take place from 3:30 to 5:30 Sunday, November 17th, at 900 Linden Avenue. You can visit the Lind Arena Facebook page for more details or call Faith at (740) 408-3739 or Lynn at (740) 454-1320.
