Sleeping at Wheel Sends Car Over Bridge

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says the cause of an accident that sent a car over a bridge and into the water was the driver falling asleep at the wheel.

It happened around 5 p.m. yesterday.

Sergeant Chuck Merryman says 29-year-old Michael Hunt of Warsaw was traveling westbound of US 36 when he went off the left side of the road, struck a guardrail, went airborne, and then into the river.

Eight-year-old Nequisha Hunt of Warsaw was a passenger in the car.

The State Highway Patrol, Coshocton Sheriff’s Office, Warsaw Fire Department, and Jackson Township Fire Department responded.

A water rescue was needed to rescue the victims. Jackson Townsip Captain Greg Rice says crews used two jet-powered boats.

Both Michael and Nequisha were transported to Coshocton Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
