SO Helps with Cop/K9 Shooting

When one officer is down, let alone two, it doesn’t matter which police force they belong to.

Last night’s shooting of ZPD Officer Mike Schiele and his K-9 partner Bosco brought out not only the Zanesville Police Department, but the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office, South Zanesville Police Department and the Ohio State Patrol.

Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz says they departments consistently work together.

“Most of our guys in cruisers have the Zanesville frequency,” said Lutz. “We can get on there and talk to them. We monitor that. Last night when Officer Schiele came on and let everyone know what was going on, we had guys that just immediately responded to the scene.”

Lutz says the Sheriff’s Office helped the ZPD and did whatever they needed.

“Some of the work we did last night follow up helped lead to the capture of this guy,” said Lutz. “They were able to get him in custody. It’s good team work, following up on leads and you never know when the one lead is going to be the right one and so they all need to be followed up on.”

Lutz says the teamwork allows the process of investigation and follow up to go faster. He says in a situation like last night’s, you can never have too many people.
