Solid Gold Rib Fest is Back

It’s only been a couple weeks since the Muskingum County Fair, and now the fairgrounds will be transformed once again.

Starting Friday at 4:00 p.m. the 12th Annual Solid Gold Rib Fest will take over a plot on the grounds. Each year, the Minority Business Resource Network hosts the event to raise money for scholarships and to get the community together.

” It gives us some funds to do scholarships, endowment and stuff like that,” said the CEO of the network, Ernest Bynum. “It’s something for the whole community to enjoy. You have to be here to see the mixture of the community. I think that’s what our number one goal is to get the community together.”

Bynum said the fest is free to attend but through vendors and sponsors, the network raises between $6,000 and $7,000 each year. He said they’d love to raise more to help even more students further their education.

“We need more sponsors,” Bynum said. “I always like to say, it isn’t too late to donate. What I’m saying is we want to keep it free. If we start charging, it’s going to be horrible. We want to keep it free.”

Preparations continued at the Fairgrounds Tuesday, but it won’t be until 4:00 p.m. Friday when the activities get started. Bands will be playing all night Friday and Saturday.

Girls Can Rock, Inner City Blues Band, Hot Boyz and Funky Gurus will play in that order on Friday. On Saturday, Slap Jack, Jimmy Vincent, Inner City Blues Band, Funky Gurus and Hot Boyz will play in that order starting at 4:00 p.m.
