ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Combining history, soul, and food all together.

St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church hosted a soul food dinner this afternoon. This is the second year for the event, with the meal including a variety of foods such as corn bread, collared greens, barbecue, and chicken. The purpose of the dinner is to honor and celebrate Black History Month.

“So it’s just kind of bringing everybody together from all walks of life to honor and to celebrate Black History Month,” said Pastor of St. Paul A.M.E. Church, Clifton Kilpatrick.

The planning process for this event started early this year. A program also took place with a choir presenting songs, a string quartet, and dancing. The importance of the event is to look back on history.

“It’s remembering our history. And honoring what has been done that we can build off that. And go into the present and into the future. Just remembering what oppressed people did to survive, how a segment of them trusted in the Lord, and believed in Christ in the most difficult,” said Kilpatrick.

The soul food dinner took place from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
