SOUTH ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A gas leak in South Zanesville caused the evacuation of two businesses.

Wednesday evening the South Zanesville Fire Department received a call from the Taco Bell on June Parkway about customers smelling the odor of gas. While investigating the South Zanesville Fire Department was also approached by the manager of Riesbeck’s who said customers at his store had smelled gas as well.

Both businesses were evacuated and June Parkway was shut down. SZFD Chief Russell Taylor said new gas lines were recently installed and the public was in no immediate danger.

“At this time there is no explosion danger. It’s just a mater of locating where it’s at and making sure there isn’t a blow off from where they charged the new line,” said Chief Taylor.

Customers who had smelled the odor were checked out by medical personnel, and no injuries were reported. South Zanesville Fire Department was assisted by Roseville Fire Department, the fire departments of Newton, Harrison, and Falls Township, as well as Community Ambulance.
