South Zanesville Riesbeck’s Holds ‘National Drug Take Back Day’
It’s springtime and now is a great time to spring clean your medicine cabinet.
This Saturday is ‘National Drug Take Back Day’ and from 10 a.m until 2 p.m South Zanesville Riesbeck’s Pharmacy is giving the public it’s 11th opportunity in six years to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs.
“We do not want those medications getting into our water, in our systems. Traditionally you would flush them down the toilet, whatever would you do with those, so we do provide that safe environment. It’s important to get them off the streets, you don’t want to put those in your garbage where maybe somebody can go in and and dig through the trash or children,” said Jane Dombroski, Store Events Coordinator.
Along with South Zanesville Riesbeck’s Pharmacy, the DEA and Muskingum County Sheriff’s office will be there to assist. Sheriff Matt Lutz said this event is a branch off of the ‘Drug Take Back Day’ at the Health Department, something he said is a team effort.
“It is kind of like a partnership, we’re taking the liquids and sharps up there but, the pills that are collected down here will be taken by the deputy back over to our jail and put with the pills that we collected at the other site and DEA will pick up all of the pills,” said Sheriff Lutz.
The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.
