Spooky Fun Coming to Zanesville
ZANESVILLE, OH – Fall is just around the corner, and Zanesville is gearing up for some festive and spooky fun!
The Y-City Scarecrow Contest is back to celebrate the fall season. From October 10th through the 31st, scarecrows will be lining the streets of downtown Zanesville for visitors to enjoy and vote on. To get involved, be sure to register your scarecrow by September 20th. For $30, participants receive a frame and voting sign, with prizes awarded to the top three entries. Nonprofits and schools can enter the contest free of charge.
“We do the Scarecrow Contest every year. This is our 4th year to do it in downtown Zanesville. We invite businesses, organizations, classes, and even individuals if they want to decorate a scarecrow. We provide the frame and a little voting sign. They decorate it however their heart desires. Once they’re decorated, we put the signs on, and we put them downtown for people to walk through and check out all the designs and vote on their favorite,” Information Specialist, Jordin Harmer said.
For those seeking a spookier fall activity, the 2024 Downtown Zanesville Ghost Tours will run every Friday and Saturday evening in October from 7 to 8:30 pm. Explore the eerie stories and history of Zanesville with guided tours starting at Secrest Auditorium. Tickets are $15.
“With the Ghost Tours, we partner with the Renner Theatre. They get some volunteers together and serve as guides. They will walk groups downtown and will talk about paranormal activity and a lot of historical information. It is a walking tour, so you will want to wear good shoes. It is at nighttime and it’s just a fun time, especially around Halloween,” Harmer said.
You can register for the Scarecrow Contest or purchase ghost tour tickets on the Visit Zanesville website.
