Spots Still Open for Glenn Museum Space Day Camps
New Concord, Ohio —The John and Annie Glenn Museum is gearing up to host its annual Space Days Camp on July 14 and 15.
This year’s theme is electricity which is a vital part of space travel. Campers will explore how electricity powers missions in space and why understanding it is important for the advancement of space travel. In addition to science-based learning, students will celebrate John Glenn’s legacy, birthday, and discover the rich history of astronauts from Ohio, a state responsible for nearly 20% of all astronauts.
“We concentrate on the fact that he [John Glenn] was an astronaut in Space Days, we’ve been doing this for a long time, we’ve had a lot of success with it, and we enjoy it a lot,” John and Annie Glenn Museum Education Programs Coordinator Betsy Taylor said. “John’s birthday is on the 18th but we’re going to be celebrating our space days on the 14th and the 15th.”
The first day of the camp is open to those who are 9 and 10 years old while the 2nd day is open to those who are 11 and 12. The cost is $20 per student and lunch is included. Both days are packed with hands-on activities and interactive learning.
“This year our theme is electricity, I know that sounds very broad but we’re going to concentrate on types of electricity and its importance to the space programs, specifically John Glenn’s space capsule, the shuttle and the ISS,” Taylor said.
Activities include building electrical circuits and experimenting with static electricity. Spots are still available. If you or your child are interested, please visit the John and Annie Glenn Museum website for more information.
